Povidone-Iodine
Raw Material for nearly 50 Years

Marcus Research Laboratory has manufactured the active pharmaceutical ingredient Povidone-Iodine for nearly 50 years in St. Louis, Missouri — the heart of the United States. We are pleased to offer material with excellent stability, low moisture and high average available Iodine content.

Prior to the advent of transfer agents such as the polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone — also known as Povidone, iodine as an antiseptic was frequently administered in a dilution of alcohol. The resulting product, while effective in killing germs, is also toxic to human skin and creates an acute burning sensation.

The benefit of Povidone is that it delivers the iodine gradually by way of slow release. As the polymer gradually releases the iodine for killing germs, it has the effect of being pain free, or non-toxic while remaining extremely effective. This was a significant breakthrough in the history of modern healthcare.

For many years the product – expensive by comparison with alcohols, hydrogen peroxide and other antiseptics – was only available in hospitals in developed nations. Fortunately today PVP-Iodine is available to people around the world, both in hospitals and over-the-counter, and the benefits are widely available. Povidone-Iodine continues to be one of the most effective, as well as most rapid germicides available in the world. With the work of companies such as Marcus Research Lab, PVP-Iodine will continue to be made available to people around the world.

Marcus is pleased to offer a variety of options for Povidone-Iodine, meeting the requirements of various aspects of the pharmaceutical and veterinary industries. Click on the tabs at the top of the page to learn more about our product line.
